Why average cost differs from average price
Divide the total purchase amount by the total units acquired. For example, two purchases of 100 at prices of 50 and 25 buy 2 and 4 units. Your average cost is 200 divided by 6, or about 33.33 per unit. Buying repeatedly does not guarantee a profit.
